The Black Teddy Mare (imp UK)

Horse Details

2002 black Gypsy Cob mare ~ 13.2hh

Sire: Sooty’s Old Stallion (UK)                                      Dam: The Teddy Mare

Teddy was bred by Trevor “Sooty” Johnson from the North of England. Her sire was one of the many very prepotent descendants of The Horsehoe Mare, arguably one of the most influential brood mares in the history of the breed. One of the many things that I admire about the Horseshoe lines is the quality of the bone and joints.

Sooty’s old horse was a son of The Horseshoe filly. The Horseshoe Filly was by Gykes Black Horse  from the Horseshoe Mare. His sire was The Horse Who Twisted his Gut a son of The Christie Horse (aka Billy Boy).

The Teddy mare is a daughter of Eddie Alcock’s Old Black Horse by The Coal Horse from the Black and White Crimea Mare by The Kent Horse from the Crimea Mare.

Thanks to the generosity of her breeder, we know more of Teddy’s back breeding and are thrilled to have such a well bred mare as an important member of our herd.

Personality wise, Teddy is an absolute joy. Teddy is gentle, loving and a bit of a clown. She enjoys a drink with her people and is playful and full of the love of life.

In Australia, Teddy’s offspring are her entire son The Teddy Boy of High Street Gypsy Cobs, her gelding son Mr Watson, the black colt Arcadius and our own silver dapple colt Armani. Teddy is in foal to Pied Piper for this coming spring. The resulting foal will be linebred to the Horseshoe Mare and have Frainey (Sid’s Good Stallion) bloodlines from Domino so we are eagerly waiting to see baby. Frainey and Horseshoe lines are a known nick.

We are hoping for a chestnut and white filly from this mating so will probably get a black colt!

Her maternal siblings can be seen on Blarney Stone Acres website. Her full sister Red Teddy is still in the UK. Teddy has one fraternal sibling in Australia being the lovely Billy Boy imported by Watermark.
